The St. Olaf men’s tennis team suffered a heartbreaking loss on March 8, falling 4-5 to University of St. Thomas.
St. Olaf fell at the first and second doubles positions but claimed a vital victory at third doubles, with Ben Carlson ’16 and Nico Gibb ’15 battling to a 9-7 win.
Needing to win four of the six singles matches to overcome the Tommies, the Oles could only manage three. Stephen Nolan ’15 scored a 6-3, 6-0 victory in the top singles match. Gibb recovered from a 2-5 scoreline in the second set to record a 7-5, 7-6 win at fourth singles. Matthew Christensen ’15 was also victorious, winning 4-6, 6-3, 10-6.
St. Olaf will return to action on March 15 with a non-conference showdown against the Division II St. Cloud State University.
