As the fall sports season winds down, St. Olaf football finally achieved its first conference victory against Carleton, the scoring attack being led by breakout wide receiver Connor Henderson ’18. Henderson hauled in his fourth touchdown reception this season, tied for sixth most in conference, and his 64.9 average receiving yards per game are fourth best in the MIAC. He’s quickly developed into the Oles’ primary deep threat, leading the team with 454 yards and establed a good rapport with quarterback Jack Goldstein ’18 that should carry into their senior season next fall, when St. Olaf will look to build on its few wins this season.
Q: What’s your main strength as a receiver, and what’s something you still hope to improve?
A: I think that the main strength for not only myself, but our receiver group as a whole, is our speed and athleticism. One thing that we, and especially I, need to improve on is blocking and just being more physical in general.
Q: What impact is the 2016 St. Olaf football team specifically going to leave on you after the season is finished and the seniors have graduated? What will you take away?
A: This season has been one that I will never forget because of the great atmosphere down at the football facilities every day. Even though the season has not gone as well as we would like, people are always in good spirits and it is clear that the guys on the team all really care about each other. This year’s seniors have been great role models and leaders for all of us younger guys through the passion and work ethic that they show every day.
Q: What’s the next step you and the team hope to take next fall, and how will you work to make that happen?
A: Next fall we hope to finally be able to turn the corner and go from a team that wins a couple games a year to a team that can string wins together and play very competitive games on a weekly basis. In order for that to happen everyone will need to buy into the off-season training this upcoming winter and spring, and we will need underclassmen to step up as leaders and take the place of the seniors that will be leaving us.
