A couple of great friends of mine have told me I have immaculate music taste. I like to believe them sometimes. That is why, today, I am giving out the goods of what I’ll be listening to this fall.
Starting off strong: “Preacher’s Daughter,” by Ethel Cain. This album will be in my fall listening rotation based on vibes. But, it is much more than that. An album with a strong haunted ambiance is the perfect album to listen to on walks in the Natural Lands, and that I will be doing. The album even has a very interesting storyline of cannibalism, one perfect for this fall.
Next up is a duo. For you, I have “A Seat at the Table” and “When I Get Home” by Solange. These albums are great for any season, but perfect for fall. You know those songs that you imagine yourself dancing to? These albums are full of them. So while everyone is listening to Taylor’s Version of “1989,” you can be interpretive dancing in your head to Solange this fall.
Taking it back a little bit, we have “Tidal” by Fiona Apple. If you don’t know this album, you need to know this album. And if you do know this album, you need to know me. Regarding fall, this album is most definitely for late fall, a season overlooked. You should be listening to “Tidal” when fall is becoming winter. It’s what it was made for, I like to think.
Now, the next album I will be listening to this fall is “Negro Swan” by Blood Orange. Let me put you on. This album is not to be reckoned with. It’s one that bends genres, combining R&B, jazz, club, and classical music. It’s similar to the ways that Minnesota fall bends the weather, combining wind, snow, cold, heat, and the whole shebang.
If this next album has zero fans, I am no longer on this earth. This next album is “What Do You Think About the Car?” by Declan Mckenna, an album that I have loved these past few falls. With such a pretty album cover and pretty music, this album is great for fall and it’s great for me. And I’m claiming it’s good for you too. This album is great for your autumn playlist.
And now we have a speed round of singles. “Dang” by Caroline Polachek because of its energy, one that can keep me warm in my headphones while the rest of me is so cold.
“Scorton’s Creek” by Isaac Dunbar and its remixes will be listened to this fall due to their amazing instrumentals that are just so perfect for the fall and the sweaters that come with it.
“His Hands” and “Attachment Love” by Blegh will be in my fall rotation. I have no reasoning, however. These two songs just scratch my brain. And sometimes you just need songs that will scratch your brain.
