For the most part, everyone knows many of the main national or popular holidays that are celebrated — such as Christmas, Halloween, Hanukkah, Eid, Labor Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day — and unofficial holidays such as Valentine’s Day. But what is lesser known is how many national days there are that celebrate a wide variety of events or things, ranging from National Do Something Nice Day, Oct. 5, to Alien Abduction Day, March 20.
Amidst the many wacky and strange national days, there is also a day dedicated to pillow fighting. April 5 marks the day where you can fluff up your pillow and truly let loose; your victim could be your roommate, friend, family member, or maybe a stranger, but there’s space for everyone and anyone on this battle day. National Pillow Fight Day was founded by the Urban Playground Movement with the first fight being in 2008, making it a relatively new national day. If you really want to make this day worth it, I have some recommendations for you.
For starters, make sure you find the fluffiest pillow possible. You need collateral in this fight, of course, and a group of people. Following the main rules on this day is essential — you don’t want to disrespect a national day. I think this national day is one of the best days, although maybe not as good as National Latte Day or National Chocolate Day, but what other day are you able to have a huge fight full of fluff and downy feathers? So April 5, grab your pillow, and maybe anyone you have a grudge against, and let the chaos ensue.
