Amy Klobuchar (Democrat)
Minnesota’s senior senator, Amy Klobuchar, is up for re-election in 2024. She has served since 2007. Klobuchar may be best known to out-of-state residents as having run for President in 2020. She was seen at the time as one of the more moderate members of the field. In the Senate, Klobuchar has focused on consumer protection, agriculture, and protecting abortion rights, among other issues. In the 116th congress, Klobuchar voted in line with President Biden’s position 98.5% of the time.
Joyce Lacey (Independence-Alliance)
Joyce Lacey is a former local television reporter running under the Independence-Alliance Party. The party is best known for being the party of Jesse Ventura, a former WWE wrestler who served as Minnesota Governor in the 1990s. A former Republican, Lacey’s campaign now focuses on several relatively unique issues. Lacey is an advocate for term limits, a proponent of guardianship reform, and a supporter of electoral changes such as ranked-choice voting and ending partisan gerrymandering.
Royce White (Republican)
Royce White first is a former NBA player who gained public attention for his involvement in the Black Lives Matter (BLM) movement and his advocacy for mental health awareness in professional sports. If elected, White intends to focus on energy independence, protecting the Second Amendment, and establishing a “jubilee” in which Americans wouldn’t have to pay taxes for a year. White has also gained attention for various controversial comments. He has frequently appeared on Alex Jones’s “Infowars,” asserts the existence of “Jewish elites” and once tweeted that “the bad guys won World War II.”
Rebecca Whiting (Libertarian)
Whiting is a small business owner and combat veteran from rural Minnesota. Like Lacey, Whiting is a critic of the two-party system, although she takes a less centrist approach. Whiting’s platform includes plans to pursue a policy of non-interventionism, ending the Federal Reserve, and the privatization of the Department of Veterans Affairs. As a mother to a large family, Whiting has also been a staunch advocate for homeschooling.
