Corey Butler
Corey Butler has served as vice-chair of the Northfield School Board for the past two years. He is the son of a school bus driver and a school custodian. In a questionnaire conducted by the Northfield Education Association, Butler shared that the recruitment and retention of quality teachers is at the top of his list of issues. Butler is endorsed by the Northfield Education Association.
Tristan Cox
Tristan Cox is a former teacher and coach at Northfield High School. Having graduated from Northfield High School himself, Cox also holds a B.A. in history from Luther College. According to his campaign website, tristanforschoolboard.com, Cox has previously served on the Northfield Public Schools finance advisory committee and volunteered at Greenvale Park Elementary School.
Maggie Epstein
Maggie Epstein is a parent and foster parent in the Northfield district. She holds a B.A. from Carleton, an EdM from Harvard Graduate School of Education, and a MLIS from San Jose State University. In a questionnaire conducted by the Northfield Education Association, Epstein highlighted the lack of adequate funding from the state, rising inflation, and declining enrollment as the biggest issues facing the Board. She hopes the Board will play an active role in advocacy for school funding, push aside personal agendas, and “truly listen.” She is endorsed by the Northfield Education Association.
Amy Goerwitz
Amy Goerwitz has previously served as the clerk for the Northfield School board. She was initially elected in 2016 for a four-year term and is now serving her second term. Goerwitz has spent her career in alumni relations across five different colleges and universities, including Carleton College. She is endorsed by the Northfield Education Association.
Claudia Gonzalez-George
Claudia Gonzalez-George is the current chair of the Northfield School Board. Gonzalez-George is also the Executive Assistant to the St. Olaf Provost and Dean of the College. In a questionnaire conducted by the Northfield Education Association, she identified funding as her biggest issue. Gonzalez-George sees her role as being to “support, evaluate, and hold the superintendent accountable to our state requirements, district’s strategic plan, and community expectations.” She is endorsed by the Northfield Education Association. If elected, this would be her second term.
Iris Lee
Iris Lee is a 25-year resident of Northfield. She has served as the Education and City Hall reporter for Northfield News and as a news reporter for KYMN. In an interview with Northfield News, she shared that has an interest in looking at curriculum, and, instead of focusing on “career and college readiness,” she instead would like to place focus on preparing students for the workplace and real life after graduation.
Andreas Thurnheer
Andreas Thurnheer came to Northfield in the late 1990s from Switzerland. He has 40 years of experience in engineering and automation in the food industry. According to an interview by KYMN, Thurnheer believes his business and engineering experience will bring a fresh perspective to the district’s infrastructure problems. He defined his most important goal as being “to ensure the district has the financial and human resources and support its needs to educate and prepare our students.”
