With the 2024 presidential election coming to a close, state and local election results have been trickling in. For Northfield voters, results have come in as of Nov. 6. Below are the recorded election results for the Northfield ballot:
U.S. Presidential Election
As did Americans across the country, Northfielders woke up this morning to the news that candidate Donald Trump won the national race for 47th president of the United States. The Associated Press called the race following Trump’s win in the critical swing state of Wisconsin, which pushed his Electoral College vote count safely past the 270 threshold from 267 to 277. Trump’s ultimate win can largely be attributed to the securing of Pennsylvania’s 19 electoral votes, which placed him well out of the reach of opposing candidate Vice President Kamala Harris. While four states — Alaska, Arizona, Michigan, and Nevada — have yet to submit their final counts, the official electoral votes stand at 295 for Trump and 224 for Harris. Trump also won the popular vote, receiving 71,798,254 votes to Harris’ 66,907,296.
The final vote count in Minnesota, however, paints a slightly different picture. In Minnesota, Harris secured 51.1% of the vote, nearly five percentage points higher than Trump’s 46.8%. Minnesota’s ten electoral votes went to Harris.
U.S. Senate
Incumbent senior senator Amy Klobuchar, the Democratic candidate, won Minnesota’s one U.S. Senate seat that was up for grabs this year by a significant margin. Klobuchar received 81.61% of the vote, 14.81% of the vote went to Republican candidate Royce White, and the Libertarian and Independent-Alliance each received just under 2% of the vote.
U.S. House District 2
Incumbent Congresswoman Angie Craig (DFL) was re-elected as the U.S. House Representative for Minnesota’s 2nd Congressional District. Craig received 55.54% of the vote, as compared to Republican candidate Joe Teirab’s 42.08%.
Minnesota State Legislature (State Representative District 58A)
Democratic-Farmer-Laborer (DFL) candidate Kristi Pursell was re-elected to serve as the State House Representative for Minnesota’s District 58A. This race was a bit closer than some of the others seen in this year’s election, with the Republican opponent Rita Hillmann Olson less than five percentage points behind Pursell’s 52.43% win.
Northfield Mayor
Candidate Erika Zweifel will serve as Northfield’s next mayor, having earned 53.62% of the vote. Ruth Dahl, the other mayoral candidate, received 45.9%.
Northfield Council Member at Large
Incumbent Brad Ness, who has served on the Northfield City Council since 2016, will continue to hold the position of Northfield Council Member at Large. A popular candidate in this year’s election, Ness received 65.76% of the vote.
Northfield Council Member Ward 2
Another popular candidate in this election, Chad Beumer beat opponent Emy Farley by a just over twenty percentage point margin, ending the election with 60.35% of the electorate’s vote.
Northfield Council Member Ward 3
Candidate Peter Dahlen, running uncontested in this election, received 98.23% of the vote.
Northfield County Commissioner
Candidate Jim Purfeerst will serve as the next Northfield County Commissioner, earning 55.14% of the vote to opponent Erik Sahlin’s 44.49%.
