Dear Nordic Ski teams,
After countless mornings watching you all ski down Ole Avenue on your rollerskis, I’d like to propose perhaps a better alternative: ski when it snows outside! I understand that the Minnesota weather has yet to favor this type of skiing, but it might be worth the wait. Snow skiing looks far more enjoyable, plus you avoid the danger of being hit by cars.
I also imagine it’s much easier to race on snow than on pavement. It is surely a hassle to have to close down miles of residential and city roads to sponsor a race, so why not do it on a snow course? There are literally courses for cross-country skiing, it wouldn’t hurt to utilize them.
Lastly, do you not sweat buckets when rollerskiing on a sunny, 60-degree day? The temperature plus the heat emanating from the pavement must be brutal, which is something you don’t have to worry about when it’s cold and snowy.
Of course, these are only suggestions, but I believe that there are benefits to each suggestion. Here’s to a snowy Minnesota winter!
Sincerely,
A Southerner
