The horrors and highs of Halloweekends have officially come to an end. There have been loads of excitement centered around these past two weeks, and for good reason too. It was a delight to take part in both weekends as each had their own special spin on celebrations.
The first Halloweekend that took place on Oct. 25-Oct. 26 was definitely on the low-key and creative side. On Oct. 26, there were plenty of festivities throughout the day to partake in. Student Government Association (SGA) hosted a Halloween for Kids to come play games, earn prizes, and eat treats; the Hmong Ole Student Association (HOSA) was selling delicious boba milk tea for fundraising; Kildahl Hall hosted their All Hall Fall Ball full of dancing and fun; and the 24-hour musical was performing that night in the Pause! As far as dressing up went, there was a bit of division across campus throughout the later parts of the night — since Halloween fell on a weekday, there was a debate over dressing up early or not. Due to that, a lot of the costumes were subtle. The mouse from “If You Give a Mouse a Cookie” was roaming around chomping on a few cookies, a few sailors and bikers were hanging out together, and even a SWAT team was spotted on campus from time to time.
The week leading up to the second Halloweekend was absolutely buzzing. Various groups on campus such as PubSafe, Biology Club, Pre-Law Student Association, the Programming Board, Oles Under the Sun, the Wellness Center, and more hosted Halloween events. There was something for everyone to partake in on Halloween night as activities ranged from solving haunted cases to learning about kinks and costumes. Later on, the costumes were coming out left and right! Of course, the Halloween classics like vampires, witches, and cops arrived. Plenty of “Scooby Doo” families strolled through the streets. There were tons of memorable moments when Daphnes, Freds, and Velmas found different Scoobys than their own. The most unique costumes of the night? Suki from “Fast and Furious,” Rapunzel and Flynn from “Tangled,” and Rob Rausch from “Love Island.”
Which weekend was the student body more hyped for? I think it’s safe to say that the weekend of Nov. 1 definitely takes the cake. The costumes were top tier, and the social scene throughout the community was absolutely electrifying.
