What’s great about going out? Mingling, singing, and dancing. Just being able to let loose and have some fun. You know what’s not fun? Hearing the same techno beat for 20 minutes straight. Okay, it may not be the exact same techno beat over and over again, but let’s be honest — all EDM songs sound the same.
Some may disagree with me, but I believe that there is such a thing as too much techno. It’s fine for transitions in between songs — any DJ who can master a smooth song transition has a yes in my books — and that’s the thing — there needs to be variety! I don’t want to be listening to EDM all night long. I want to listen to songs that people can sing and dance to! Don’t tell me you can dance to techno music because Froggz’s reopening night proved that to be false — at one point in the night when the EDM hit for too long, there was just a crowd of people standing on the dance floor.
I can’t name any specific EDM songs that should stop being played because, again, they all sound the same to me. However, I don’t think we need to list any specifics — just stop with the techno. It’s not vibey, it’s not fun, and it doesn’t really equate to a good night out. So, you’re probably thinking: what’s the alternative? Let me tell you — white girl bangers.
Bring back the ABBA, bring back “Supercuts” by Lorde, give me something, anything please! I love when people on the dance floor start scream-singing to music while dancing. Speaking of dancing, I want to see people actually dance. Not just bobbing their heads, frat flicking, and swaying side to side — I want to see people move and just having fun! And, let’s face it, you can’t have that when it’s the same techno beat playing over and over again.
Honestly, it doesn’t even have to be white girl bangers, so long as it’s something fun. The world has been lacking in fun music for the past few years, but with Charli XCX’s “Brat,” Sabrina Carpenter’s “Short N’ Sweet,” and Tyla’s self-named album “Tyla”, I think as a collective, we’re finally getting back to music that people can have fun and groove to. So, please, whoever is on aux anywhere — especially at a party — let’s stop with the techno-only music and bring back joy and whimsy.
