As the holiday season approaches, there are a ton of couple activities to do, but what about my singles? Here are some ideas to treat yourself during this holiday season!
- Curl up and watch a cozy movie! There are tons of holiday classics like “Home Alone,” “The Polar Express,” and “Love Actually.” Choose one or a few, grab a steaming mug of hot cocoa, and get streaming.
- Make a sweet treat! Pick your favorite festive recipe (gingerbread, eggnog, cookies, etc.) and spend a day baking. There are many desserts, both sweet and savory, to choose from.
- Interested in crafts? Create a new piece of decor for your home to create a holiday aesthetic. You could make a wreath, ornament, or knit something new!
- Wind down with a cozy book! This is a personal favorite of mine to do around the holiday season. Go to a bookstore, browse the endless sections, and pick a holiday-themed book.
- Ever gone to a Christmas Market? There are loads of markets in Minnesota filled with small vendors of food and trinkets to buy. A big hit around here is the European Christmas Market in St. Paul!
- Time to get on the ice! Grab a pair of skates, head to the closest rink and have fun skating around. Whether you’re an expert or not, skating is always a fun time — especially if you treat yourself to a cup of hot chocolate afterwards.
- Create a vision board for the new year! Now is always a good time to reflect on the past year and think about what you want for the next. Cut printouts or find some photos to create your dream collage.
- Take a scenic drive! As lights are being hung and houses are being decorated, take a drive at night to see all the beautiful decorations in town or the neighborhood.
- A day of gratitude! Spend the day writing letters to your close friends and family. Reflect on your year together, share some memories and brighten their day with your letter.
- Watch a holiday performance! There are plenty of performances on campus to be found like Christmas Fest on Dec. 6-8 and “The Nutcracker,” which is performing at the Orpheum on Dec. 6-7.
- Volunteer or donate to a local charity! Feed My Starving Children is a great program and there is a center in Chanhassen. Help feed some families for the season.
- A spa day! Spend a day full of relaxation through putting on a face or hair mask, diffusing essential oils, taking a nice bath, giving yourself a mani-pedi, and your favorite comfort meal.
