Art is subjective; it will always be. Whatever someone likes, I can like it, love it, dislike it, hate it, or feel neutral about it. It’s okay to not be a fan of a specific song or genre. Not everyone is going to agree with something so specific to your interests and likes in your life. But what if you like something made by someone who has a troubling track record? What did your favorite artist do in order to be so hated by so many different people from different genres and media? Let’s explore some examples with warranted and unwarranted backlash to their names.
One recent example of this happened to an artist named beabadoobee, when she “crashed out” over a meme. Though a lot of people pointed out that she wasn’t screaming or yelling or throwing a huge fit, she pointed out that she kept getting harassed because of the overused meme. She’s been sexualized and harassed by her increasingly large amount of toxic fans. Many defended beabadoobee saying that the joke got dragged out too long and mostly turned into hate posting about her. One response from the original poster depicted them getting mad back and responding, “she won’t let you hit.” Are we serious right now? Her words shouldn’t get to you if they don’t apply to you.
Personally, I liked the rant she went on. It was understandable that she would be upset and annoyed at a joke for the 30th time. Ultimately, this is a manifestation of a frustrated artist that boils down to harassment, sexualization of your race and looks, being doubted for your innate talents because of your looks, and getting threats from a toxic fanbase.
On the other hand, there are people who deserve to be disgraced and looked down upon, like Kanye West. Although some of the events happened a while ago at this point, we can look at what happened and reflect on why he is slowly and not-so-abruptly losing his fan base and audience. Let’s face it, at this point, his current music is quite bad compared to his earlier works like “The College Dropout,” “Graduation,” and “The Life of Pablo.” Kanye’s recent music is not as good and has gotten significantly lower ratings, and understandably so. It’s just disappointing compared to other songs in his earlier discography. His most recent meltdown on X, formerly known as Twitter, has definitely raised more red flags on behavior he’d been brewing even years before. He went on a gigantic rant where he claimed to be a Nazi, insulted Jewish people and other minorities, praised Donald Trump — go figure from this endorsement in the last couple of years — supported the freedom of P. Diddy, and so much more. More information can be found on TikTok or YouTube going over his “crash out.” He’s not a good person. His recent actions towards himself and others are the downfall of his music. He had a white shirt with a swastika on it, and you still want people to know you listen to him?
These are the most recent examples of music artists that either didn’t deserve the hate, beabadoobee, or do deserve the hate, Kanye West. It’s unfortunate to both fan bases that have to deal with the artists being racist and crashing out in the open while they make garbage music, and certain toxic and disgusting fans that take things too far with their words towards an artist.
