I love the power that spring break gives you. After the first groggy weeks of the semester, spring break approaching just feels like a blessing, a 3:00 a.m. glass of water in the middle of the desert, and a time we could all use to catch up on our happiness. With the crazy weather we are having right now, it doesn’t seem like Minnesota will be having a crazy pool party Charli xcx “Spring Breakers” vibe, but does that mean you have to sit around on your phone all day waiting for your midterm grades to pop up? Spring break is a time to do what you love, what you hate, and what you want.
So, are you going home? Hug your relatives, take walks around your neighborhood, or go to a memorable spot. As an international student, it constantly feels like a walk around the park I used to go to as a child could heal me, for real. Enjoy a home-cooked meal, either from you or whoever is taking care of you.
Or, maybe, are you going away? Spring Break is a great time to go exploring with your friends wherever the highway will take you (for some reason, it’s always Duluth) and visit other places. It’s convenient that the break is a little later than other colleges, as you can go visit other campuses and have new adventures.
But you could also stay local. Are you staying here? Take advantage of the places that are usually crowded, go on walks to the natural lands, or maybe to the meditation room. Spend time with friends who are here — you never know what kind of bond you could create. And explore without shame! Catch up on whatever you need to. And enjoy the deep breath that this break is. My friends and I always say “we don’t talk about spring break.” So if you want to do something crazy, nobody will judge you. After all, what happens over spring break…
