Last semester, St. Olaf’s Student Government Association (SGA) passed an Anti-Apartheid Resolution to “formally acknowledge and condemn apartheid and pledge solidarity with all individuals, particularly Palestinian students and other survivors of 21st-century apartheid, by advancing support mechanisms within St. Olaf’s student government.”
In addition to condemning apartheid, SGA committed to several policies. These include
“encouraging SGA organizations to restrict the use of allocated funds from businesses or organizations identified as perpetrators or supporters of apartheid,” hosting a fundraiser for World Central Kitchen in partnership with The Lion’s Pause, and updating SGA’s website by transitioning from Wix to another web provider.
Secretary of Marketing and Communications Fiona Mundy ’26 took on the role of transitioning SGA’s website from Oleville on Wix to part of St. Olaf’s website on WordPress. The idea to move the website came as a result of research on the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement and companies that fund and are complicit in apartheid.
“When we were making [the organization pledge], we were thinking about all the companies that were complicit and Wix was one of the main ones that the BDS movement was [against]. We thought [about how] our entire website is based there and that’s how we get all our information out to people,” said Mundy.
In response, SGA decided to implement a previously proposed idea: moving the website to St. Olaf’s WordPress-hosted site. As of January, the SGA webpage is now part of the college’s website.
“[This way] it’s not so separate from everything else. [We are trying] to integrate it with St. Olaf’s website as a whole… and now it’s probably easier for people to access online… and I think having this will give students a lot more information and access to us,” Mundy said.
Secretary Mundy and Vice President Grace Barton ’25 want St. Olaf students to know about the new website and be able to use it to access important information. Important information on the SGA webpage includes details about upcoming elections for the SGA executive board.
