The week of March 10 was busy for both St. Olaf Men’s and Women’s Alpine Skiing, who competed in the United States Collegiate Ski and Snowboard Association (USCSA). The National Championships were held in Bend, Oregon. Here’s a recap of the week’s proceedings.
Tuesday, March 11. Women’s Alpine Skiing finished 7th out of 27 teams in the Giant Slalom. Leading the team was Kate Young ’25, whose combined time of 2:11.49 earned her All-American honors with a 14th-place finish, her second All-American honor. Jessica Stanton ’26 and Sophia González ’26 also finished in the top 50 on March 11.
Wednesday, March 12. Men’s Alpine Skiing finished 15th out of 27 teams in their Giant Slalom race. Graham Barwick ’25 narrowly missed out on All-American honors after finishing 16th, an improvement of 11 places from the 2024 National Championships.
Thursday, March 13. Both the men’s and women’s teams competed in the Slalom race. The men’s team finished 7th out of 27, led by four Oles in the top 50. Barwick led the team once again with a 17th-place finish, while Wyatt Schultz ’26 added some valuable points by finishing in 27th. Additionally, both Austin Mjanger ’28 and Karem Haymana ’26 finished in the top 50.
Women’s Alpine finished 13th out of 27. Young, Stanton, and González were once again the Oles’s top-three finishers, placing 40th, 48th, and 59th, respectively.
Due to an impending blizzard, the Dual Slalom event, scheduled for Saturday, March 15, was cancelled.
