This year marks the 54th anniversary of the Minnesota Renaissance Festival, which continues to attract over 300,000 visitors every year. Many people spend weeks, even months, preparing their costumes for the many festivities and events that the Renaissance Festival has to offer. Queen, knight, dragon, you name it. From themed weekends with jousting and comedians, to conjures, artisans, and more. You are completely transported to a land of magic and adventure, immersed in a medieval wonderland that has endless fun opportunities.
This magic of the festival was almost cut short with a fire back in April. The festival grounds experienced a fire that took out a dozen storefronts, and it left vendors and festival staff in shock. But thankfully the dragon of this fire was defeated, and a public statement announced that the festival would go on as usual.
On opening weekend, festival goers and vendors flocked to the grounds and reclaimed the magical spirit and tradition. Many vendors and performers have been returning to the festival for decades.
One of those performers being the comedic duo Puke and Snot, who hold the title of the longest running comedy act in North American renaissance festival history. Beginning their act in 1974, Puke and Snot have been entertaining audiences at the Minnesota Renaissance Festival and around the U.S. for over 50 years.
If you go to the Renaissance Festival, be sure to catch one of their five shows they perform throughout the day, along with other shows like Slapstick Fairytales where guests are treated to performances of renditions of beloved fairytales in a comedic manner. The festival grounds are in Shakopee, Minn. and the festival itself runs until Sept. 28. Tickets range from $20-45 for general admission; if you bring a copy of your report card with an A or B average to the ticket booth, you will receive a free ticket! If you did not get a chance to experience the magic, next year’s dates will be announced soon. Huzzah!
