Many St. Olaf student-athletes spent their summer building career experience while contributing to their communities.
Roxanne Rundle ’27, a member of the women’s soccer team, worked at Ciel of Cedar Mill, an assisted living facility in Oregon. Rundle assisted residents in the memory care unit and worked as a certified nursing assistant.
“I am excited to start my clinical rotations,” Rundle said in an interview with The Olaf Messenger.
Looking ahead to the academic year, Rundle said she is eager to be back in season with her teammates while pursuing her nursing major.
Kieran Haaland ’27, a baseball player, interned in wealth management at Curi Capital.
“The company is headquartered in Chicago, but I was the only intern at the Bloomington, Minnesota, location,” Haaland said.
His daily responsibilities included supporting coworkers on projects such as 401(k) allocations, net worth summaries, and research on 529 plans and equity allocations.
“I have someone’s financial situation in my hands,” Haaland said, reflecting on the challenge of ambiguity in the role. “A common misconception is that wealth management comes with numbers and correct answers, but there are actually a lot of unknowns because no one truly knows what the market is going to do.”
In Wisconsin, Solvei Berg-Messerole ’26, a member of the women’s hockey team, participated in the Svoboda Legal Scholars program at the University of Wisconsin-Madison Law School.
“I specifically worked within the family court unit,” Berg-Messerole said. “I helped conduct service appointments with families to help them become familiar with their case — not giving legal advice, per se, but providing legal help to people who can’t typically afford such services.”
Berg-Messerole said she is eager to bring what she learned back to campus.
“I feel like I’ve learned a lot about how to communicate with people and being more concise with my language,” she said.
As a senior, Berg-Messerole reflected on her three years at St. Olaf with gratitude and said she looks forward to giving her final season of hockey her all alongside her team.
