What position do you play? How long have you played football?
I’m a linebacker, which is a defensive position, as well as a starter — so that means I play a lot. I’ve also been voted as a captain on the team. There are nine of us — seven senior captains, one junior captain, and me as the only sophomore. I’ve been playing football since first grade, which at the time I played flag football.
What is a goal you have set for yourself that you hope to achieve this season? What’s a goal you have set for yourself outside of your sport?
For the season, a goal that I have for my team is winning the conference championship. We’re in a conference called the MIAC (Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) which is about 10 different teams from different schools, all in Minnesota, so that would be big. A goal that I have personally this season is to be an all-conference player, which essentially means I’m one of the best players at my position out of our entire conference. The conference championship for the entire team is definitely achievable — our team’s still in control of that. Being an all conference player started a little slow, slower than I expected, but it’s still possible due to it being early enough in the season. A goal outside of my sport would be obtaining a 3.5 GPA for the fall semester — with football it’s definitely harder to keep up with classes. In high school it was easier, grades were never an issue, but last year, [with] the transition to college and first year of college football, it was definitely harder.
What are you most proud of that you’ve accomplished on or off the field?
I’ve been able to meet a lot of people. I feel like the people here at St. Olaf in general are nice, but also our athletic community is great.
What is your main motivation?
Well, whenever I think about motivation I always think about my teammates. I always want to make sure that I’m giving as much as I can for them.
