For this week’s Ole Athlete Spotlight, I sat down with Rudy Harold ’28, a second-year on the Nordic Ski team. Harold is from St. Paul, Minn.
Q: What’s your favorite cereal in Stav?
A: I don’t really eat cereal, but if I had to decide, probably Cinnamon Toast Crunch.
Q: How would you defend the soy chocolate milk?
A: Ouch, that’s a tough one. I’d probably say it’s a really good color. A really rich, dark brown. It’s always cold and it tastes like chocolate, and no one ever drinks it so it’s never empty. It’s just the best.
Q: What’s your favorite skate technique?
A: Definitely a V2. Getting a long gliding stride that can also be super fast is just so fun. And it’s fun on both rollerskis and real snow.
Q: Do you wish that the Nordic Ski team was part of the MIAC as opposed to the USSA (U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association)/USCSA (United States Ski and Snowboard Association)?
A: I wouldn’t say that I wish it, but it would be fun to have some home races and be on the same schedule as the winter sports. And if we were in the MIAC, we would get more visibility, which is a plus. But I like the way it is as well. But also, if we were in the MIAC, we’d win every season.
Q: What’s your favorite part of being an Ole Athlete?
A: Definitely the team and community. Having friends, study partners, training partners, and roommates all in one place is awesome. The energy on the team is just so good.
