Releasing their second album nearly two decades after their previous releases, “Love Chant” by The Lemonheads came out Oct. 24, 2025. The band is known for its alternative rock sound, and this album leans fully into that identity with heavy instrumentals throughout. Evan Dando’s grunge-inflected, low-pitched vocals set the mood for each track. The eleven-song album runs 36 minutes and tackles a range of mature themes.
Fans were surprised by the album’s shift in tone compared to earlier releases, but “Love Chant” still performed well. The band averages about 800,000 monthly Spotify listeners and is approaching 300,000 followers. Much of the album’s popularity is tied to the track “In the Margin,” which has roughly 250,000 listens.
The songs explore topics including addiction, toxic relationships, shifting perspectives on life and growing older. Each track serves its own purpose, tied together by consistent yet creatively varied instrumentals. While the genre may not appeal to everyone, the album is both thoughtful and inventive. Standout tracks include “Deep End” and “Cell Phone Blues.”
Overall, “Love Chant” earns 3.5 out of 5 Big Oles and comes highly recommended — even for listeners who don’t typically gravitate toward this genre.
