The three pieces featured below are heading to campus! The artworks were selected by students in Art Now, a contemporary art course taught by professor Hannah Ryan. The pieces are Muna Malik’s Safe, Renluka Maharaj’s Lillah, and Cara Romero’s Julia. Each of the artists were chosen by the class based on Flaten Art Museum’s acquisition goals, including Somali, Indigenous, and Asian-American Pacific Islander artists. This project has been crucial in diversifying Flaten Art Museum’s largely white, cisgender, male, and Christian collection. Major shout out to Cris Hernandez ’23 for their proposal being selected. Look for future programming, as these pieces will arrive on campus soon!
