St. Olaf Rowing — or Storow, as the rowers say — is St. Olaf’s first and only rowing club. The current club president is Jessica Marlowe ’24, a senior biology major. The club has recently grown in its activity and performance.
The team dedicated a new boat in 2022, and plan to dedicate another in honor of a generous donor.
The club has a boathouse on Union lake, about 10 minutes from campus, where they practice in late fall and early spring. Week-to-week, they practice on the row-erg machines in Tostrud, or do bodyweight exercises.
Most regattas — boat races on the water — happen in the summer months, when the club isn’t meeting over summer break. The club is able to compete at the Head of the Des Moines, Iowa and the Head of the Mississippi regattas in the fall. In previous years, the club has participated at Death Row, an 18 mile race up the St. Louis river.
In the spring, the club held sprint races on the Row-erg machines, on April 14 they hosted a sprint race against St. Cloud State University. The club also intended to hold row-a-thon, a 24-hour erg-rowing fundraising event. It was unfortunately postponed due to foul weather.
