The one place that you can count on to find your friends isn’t Stav, but Rolvaag Memorial Library — specifically the third-floor area. Being a common study spot, I’ve heard that there’s been a lot of shock with the fact that the library doesn’t open until 12 p.m. on Sundays!
Since most of the library’s workers are students, it makes total sense that the hours complement student schedules. Although, I do believe that if there are people who would take the early shift, the library should have regular hours on weekends. Sunday, at least for me, is the day that I complete the majority of my work. On the weekends, The Cage and Buntrock Commons are swarming with students who are cramming to complete the next assignment or prep for an upcoming test. If the library was open earlier on Sundays or switched Saturday’s hours with Sunday’s, it would greatly benefit students.
Finals week is rough for the student body — the library is packed, every booth is taken, and the whiteboards are all being used. A solution for this? Longer library hours during finals week. A ton of other schools hold this rule, which would benefit every stressed student and give them a reliable space to study. If the hours were longer, people wouldn’t feel the need to all rush in at the same time.
Something I feel like the library needs? New booths and more fun seating. The booths on the third floor of the library are in a state of disrepair, and no one wants to sink into the springs when they take a seat. Additionally, I feel like we need more bean bags. Why not be comfy while you’re studying?
