The St. Olaf Women’s Club Lacrosse Team is wrapping up an undefeated 2026 season after a 15-4 win at their final scrimmage against Carleton. Women’s Lacrosse President Signe Aleckson ’26, who has played club lacrosse throughout her four years on the Hill, expressed gratitude for the community she has found and the leadership skills she has developed throughout her time with the team.
Aleckson joined the team her freshman year, wanting to develop her lacrosse skills after two years playing with her high school team. “I was a little nervous about playing here. I was under the assumption that the lacrosse team had a lot of experience playing and everyone would be better than me. That was definitely not the case — half of our team at that point were new players,” Aleckson said in an interview with The Olaf Messenger. “I never would have envisioned myself making it to be president my senior year.”
In Women’s Club Lacrosse, Aleckson found an accepting environment full of teammates who valued learning new skills together. “Everybody wants to play with other people and make connections and learn,” she said. “I never felt embarrassed about not having certain skills.”
Aleckson found that the team meets each player where they are at. Through passing the ball, working on developing new skills, and scrimmages, Aleckson has watched herself and her teammates improve. To her, accessibility is a large part of that success. “Accessibility is important,” she said. “I don’t think a lot of these clubs on campus would be functioning if they didn’t accept people without experience.”
Aleckson also expressed gratitude for the support she has received from her community. “I’m so appreciative of the people that have come out to watch us and support us throughout the years,” she said. “It means a lot.”
Next year, Women’s Club Lacrosse is moving up with plans to increase their official game count from three to five per season, and additionally, they hope to add more scrimmages to their calendar.
