This quick and easy recipe comes from years of celebrations with my family, nestled in rural Missouri. I look forward to our Fourth of July weekend every year, filled with hot dogs, watermelon, and ticks. My uncle collects some logs and begins the fire. As the sun begins to set, the sparks begin to crackle. We shoot off parachutes for the cousins to run in the fields, tackling one another for a victory. Ingredients litter the table just in front of the lawn chairs we set up in clusters to watch the fireworks. I will let you in on our holiday celebration dessert, a once-a-year treat from my childhood, in five easy steps!
S’mores (makes 2):
- 1 large graham cracker
- ½ Hershey’s chocolate bar
- 2 marshmallows, preferably the flat ones meant for s’mores
Instructions:
- Start a fire!
- Carefully take one marshmallow and put it on something stick-like, either a real stick or a fancy marshmallow roasting stick. You can layer both marshmallows along to reach s’mores consumption twice as fast.
- Roasting a marshmallow is completely up to your personal preference! Hover the marshmallow over the fire, careful to not be up against the fire yourself. I’m a fan of a light roast personally, but if you enjoy eating char, I will only judge you a little bit.
- Once completed, scrape one marshmallow off the stick with ¼ graham cracker and the gooey marshmallow should fall onto your plate. Break the chocolate bar in half and place it on another ¼ graham cracker. Combine all ingredients for a graham cracker-chocolate-marshmallow-graham cracker concoction. Repeat with the remaining ingredients.
- Gobble that up, you deserve it.
I hope you enjoy this super original recipe passed down through my family!
