I think the biggest advantage one could have when it comes to midterms is feeling like you are prepared, and that — no matter the outcome — you did your best. But there are many incredible campus resources that can help you ace your midterms and have peace of mind as you head into spring break (we don’t talk about spring break). So here are my best tips as someone who is currently studying for nine midterms!
The first thing is to make sure you have a good environment to study. Maybe that can be your dorm room desk, the Reference Room in Rolvaag, or the tables by the Cage. Make sure that the area can give you the time and space best for you. For example, I like to go to bed early, so I can always count on the Reference Room being open when I am studying, but sometimes I like the privacy of my own room.
The second thing is to break down your study materials into achievable goals: split them into classes, assignments, textbook reviews vs. solvable exercises, and how much time you actually need to spend on them. There are good playlists and aesthetically pleasing timers that you can download from the internet or use on the web. Finding those little motivational tools can really make a difference.
Lastly, know yourself! If you are someone who needs to study with other people, hit up your friends or join a study group. And if you need more tips, go to the St. Olaf Library Instagram page, as they post fun library events and tips to ace your midterms.
