On Sept. 13, the school year was kicked off by the Programming Board’s Fall Block Party, which took place in Buntrock Commons due to the rain. At the event there was a caricature artist, a vinyl painter, an aerial six square game, and live music in the Pause. The event was fun and well-trafficked, despite the rain. The Fall Block party is a staple of campus programming, and even without an outdoor picnic, there was still the buzz of meeting friends and the excitement of the coming year.
The crowd in the Pause was captivated by musicians Phoebe Andromeda, Kolbot, Her.man, and Undergrad, all in concert on the Mane stage. The event was dominated by sets from Her.man and Undergrad.
Herman Hjorthaug ’27, lead singer of Her.man, said “the sound is better inside, so that was a plus, but on the other hand, being outside in the sun would have been nice too, and being able to play for anyone passing by would have been a cool experience. So I suppose there are pros and cons to both scenarios.”
The shift into the Pause offered musicians better sound quality from the room acoustics and the built in speaker systems, as well as lights for their performances, in spite of the drawbacks.
