Do you enjoy listening to podcasts or radio shows? Have you been working hard and need a study break? Well, it’s time to tune into KSTO Radio. You are destined to find a show that will gauge your interests.
Around 1957, KSTO Radio was introduced on campus as a student-run radio station. Students could listen in through radio stations placed in their residence hall. Now, everyone can stream shows on their laptops or phones. On the first floor of Buntrock Commons, students go into the KSTO recording room to play their show for about one hour each week.
Students may choose to share their hot takes or display their favorite music album; you can expect a wide array of shows. There are so many to choose from, each one expresses a unique theme. However, my personal favorite is Sketchy and Loser Clientele (SLC). The hosts, Soli Augspurger ’26 and Grace Lindquist ’26, created SLC in 2023 during their sophomore year. They enjoyed listening to other podcasts their freshman year, which ultimately inspired them to create their own.
“I thought it would be a cool experience to listen to someone else’s music and my own,” Lindquist said in an interview with Olaf Messenger. “And to make something together.”
On their show, they usually have themed episodes such as “Grey’s Anatomy,” Disney music, or holiday music. I will admit they’ve introduced me to some cool new musical artists. They customize each playlist, making sure that there are new songs each time that match their new theme. They will also spark conversations about famous celebrities or social media trends.
Sadly, this is their last year hosting SLC. Augspurger and Lindquist will deeply miss making their radio show. After two years of radio production, they found that they listened to music more
mindfully. “You have to be picking out new songs and making sure you have new stuff for the radio,” Augspurger said. “I have a theme I am thinking of or an energy I am trying to make this week.”
Until their last day, they will continue their dedication to providing their audience with stellar content. There is lots to come for SLC such as new posters, themes, and guests — keep a look out on campus for their fliers. They will be airing their shows on Sundays from 5 to 6 p.m. I know I will be listening in.
