As the trees begin to lose their pale leaves, winter soon follows. The transition from fall to winter is the perfect time to sit down and read something new. Try “Interwoven.”
On Nov. 20, The Quarry Literary Magazine released their fall Amplify Zine titled “Interwoven.” This issue captures intersectional identities: how one’s race, hobbies, gender, ability, or culture shape one’s experiences of life. Students have the opportunity to share their voices and identities with others on campus.
In “Interwoven,” eight students artworks were chosen: Adrian Felipe Ayala Rodas ’26, Lali Garsiashvili ’26, Charlie Knieff ’26, Hannah Gaff ’27, Liana López ’27, CD Mangal ’28, Elliot Mevissen ’28, and Macy Gearhart ’29.
At the opening ceremony, attendees, artists, and executive members were presented with “Interwoven.” Executive Editor Angeline Domeyer ’26 presented a speech, celebrating the release of the zine. Then, the floor opened up to the contributing artists and writers. López, Mevissen, and Ayala Rodas presented their pieces aloud.
The artists captivated the audience through their powerful words. They read with determination, and their artwork left listeners wanting to know more. They noted their inspiration for their artwork and how the pieces reflect important aspects of their identities. Afterwards, audiences had the opportunity to socialize and share any new things they learned regarding “Interwoven.”
The front page detailed the threads weaving through each other and overlapping, perhaps left open for audiences to create their own interpretations. Without spoiling too much, “Interwoven,” expresses themes of family relationships, one’s own body, and personal relations with religion. This issue brings together and celebrates the diversity in the St. Olaf community.
Attendees were given paper copies of the issue, but all students can find the PDF version on The Quarry website.
