From Nov. 19 to 22, EMPTY Theater, a St. Olaf student theater organization, put on a musical production of Little Women — one that sold out within the first 30 minutes of ticket release. With a spectacular cast portraying the iconic March Sisters: Aviana Cova ’29 as Jo March, Sophia Peterson ’26 as Meg March, Minna Horak-Hulk ’29 as Beth March, and Fiona Mundy ’26 as Amy March.
These March sisters put on a whirlwind of a show in the Art Barn over their week-long schedule of performances. With a spectacular orchestra and set design that utilized the already cozy and cabin-esque nature of the space, the whole production was a treat to watch.
From Cova’s soft songs about her character Jo’s love for writing to her more exciting chorus pieces where the entire cast joined in, this play was a blast.
The actors put their whole heart into their performances, leading to sniffles from heartbreaking scenes to spread throughout the audience. Further tears were shed to the comedic scenes leaving the crowd laughing.
The actors were not the only breathtaking part of this performance — the costumes were also spectacular. These costumes, sourced from local theater companies in town, brought a professional edge to the performance that made every scene feel like they jumped right out of Louisa May Alcott’s novel.
Overall, the small but mighty production left the entire Art Barn in a standing ovation and showed what can be done when hard work, passion, and skill are put together.
